Apple's next "LiquidMetal" iPhone5

Apple decided to use liquid metal in their latest iPhone5 case. It is expected to come in October. Apple already used liquidmetal for SIM ejector in iPhone4 and iPhone4S. Liquidmetal is not really liquid. It was discovered by California Institute of Technology and it is the mix of titanium, nickel, copper and zirconium. This material is very light, smooth as liquid or glass when touching it.

Currently Liquidmetal has been used in various electronic gadgets due to its special properties and durable. It is scratch resistant and smooth to touch. Already SanDisk had used this metal in their flash drives, Sansa Mp3-players and Vertu phones under Nokia’s umbrella.

The material has also been used in jewelry, medical devices, sporting items such as golf clubs, and even in phones for hinges, antennas, and cases, since 2003 when the California Institute of Technology team organized a firm to market it under Liquidmetal Technologies.

During 2010, Apple had purchased worldwide rights to use liquid metal in its products for $20. The Liquidmetal SIM card ejector tool that comes with the iPhone 4 and Phone 4S.The use of the material for the iphone5 case would also allow for a slimmer look.
